Web Design covers the visual design of the website prior to it actually being ready to be published onto the Internet. The most important aspect of this process, and one that is often overlooked, is the consideration of the target audience of the website, and the creation of a design that will be both appealing and informative to this as well as a broader market.

The web design stage begins with a sketch and progresses to flat visuals that will show all elements of the website design, including menus, banners, footers, links, various levels of text formatting, and style of image presentation. This will then be used as a basis for developing the HTML, DHTML and CSS code for production of the working website.
